Termite Damage

A mature termite colony can destroy the structure of a wood-frame house from the inside out. But it doesn’t happen overnight; it takes a few years. If you catch an infestation in the early stages and call a professional exterminator right away, the damages might only be minor.

The most obvious signs of termite damage will appear in wooden materials around the property. Your walls might start sounding hollow, the paint might peel or bubble, the wood might seem “flaky” or have holes in it. Surprisingly, termite damage tends to look like water damage.

The cost of the damage will relate directly to how long the infestation has been going on. Minor damage can be treated with repairs that add up to a few hundred dollars. Significant termite damage can ruin the wood entirely and cost thousands of dollars to repair.

A WDI (wood destroying insect) report can only be performed by certified pest control companies like Bug Out. These reports are typically part of the home buying and selling process in Lubbock TX and can tell you if the home has an active infestation or history of termites.

Termites will eat and damage anything with “cellulose” in it. Cellulose is a natural fiber that’s found in all kinds of plant cells but is especially abundant in wood. That’s why some of termites’ favorite foods include wooden support beams, wall studs, lumber piles, decks, outdoor furniture, and stairway banisters.

A WDI (wood destroying insect) report can tell you if a home has termites or if it has a history of termites. Generally, a history of termites is fine as long as there is no active infestation.

The thing that makes severe termite damage so devastating is that it weakens the structure of your building. It makes it dangerous to live in your home. That’s why, in cases of severe termite damage, you should have a licensed contractor take a look at the damages and perform needed repairs.
