What do Bed Bug Bites Look Like?

Bed bug bites can look a lot like other kinds of insect bites. A bite from a bed bug usually looks like a red bump with a darker center and lighter, swollen surrounding area.

These are the two main ways to tell apart bed bug bites from other bug bites:

  • Bed bug bites are often aligned in zigzag patterns.
  • Bites are typically on areas of the body that are exposed at night.

Do I Have Bed Bug Bites Or Flea Bites?

The main difference between flea bites and bed bug bites is the amount of pain. The pain caused by a flea bite sets in almost immediately. Conversely, bed bug bites do not hurt until hours later, when the bite symptoms start to form. Flea bites are usually found lower on the body, like on your ankles. Bed bug bites can be found wherever you leave skin exposed overnight. Additionally, flea bites will be scattered randomly, but bed bug bites are often arranged in zigzags.

Is That A Bed Bug Bite Or Mosquito Bite?

Mosquito bites leave itchy, red marks on your skin, just like bed bugs. Unlike bed bugs, though, mosquitoes will bite you in isolated, random areas across your skin. Mosquito bite symptoms begin to show just minutes after a bite, while bed bug bites take hours to recognize. Mosquito bites are also more dangerous because of their ability to harbor and transmit a multitude of threatening diseases. Fortunately for us, though, mosquitoes in the U.S. don’t carry disease often, and their bites heal quicker than bed bug bites.
